Today we joined in a special day close to our hearts - World Autism Awareness Day. Everyone was asked to wear blue and ‘light it up blue’ to mark the day.
Parents were invited to join us for an Autism Awareness coffee morning which included some Autism training; quizzes and refreshments with AHT Katrina & our Family Wellbeing Coordinators. We were delighted to have so many join us and they had a good laugh, the opportunity to chat and learn at the same time and to win some chocolate prizes!
The whole school participated in a sponsored walk during the afternoon. The route of the walk around the school grounds is shown on the map - and children walked, ran, pushed themselves and others in wheelchairs and used equipment to get themselves around the trail, bringing with them blue flags, banners, ribbons, kites and all sorts of blue items to decorate the event.
We also took on the responsibility of raising awareness of Autism on our termly stall down at Blackburn Market, where teacher Helen and her class were selling Easter items, as well as Autism related T-shirts! They had a great time with the other traders and customers and did us proud!
World Autism Awareness Month (April) is an opportunity for everyone to come together and raise awareness, foster acceptance, and create a society where autistic people are supported, understood, and empowered and to help create an inclusive and accepting world.
Every member of the Newfield Family is accepted and valued, and we love sharing this message with the wider community.
We had a lovely day in the sunshine, looking after ourselves and each other and celebrating our uniqueness.
